At a recent community council meeting we met with Louise Muir, from the South West Villages Project, who is looking to tackle loneliness amongst older people in the local area. Do you think you could offer suggestions or an opinion? Read on...
The South West Villages Project aims to tackle loneliness amongst older people in Balerno, Currie and Juniper Green. Sadly, there are many older people living in your area who have limited social interaction, and it is known that loneliness can impact negatively on health. We would be grateful if you could spend a few minutes answering these questions to help us understand how we can solve the problem. Please note we are not asking you to commit to anything, just provide an opinion.
Did you know that loneliness and social isolation is a problem amongst older people in your community?
Do you currently volunteer in any capacity locally (with older people or any other groups)?
Would you be interested in volunteering with older people in your community? eg. helping at a lunch club, offering a lift to the shops, making a weekly phone call or visiting someone for a chat
If you are not interested in volunteering with older people locally, why not? eg. no time, doesn’t interest me, childcare issues
Would you be willing and able to post a leaflet about the South West Villages Project through the door of a neighbour who might benefit from finding out about local social opportunities?
Please return your answers to Louise at [email protected]. Your response will remain anonymous and you will only be contacted if you have expressed an interest in volunteering or delivering a leaflet. If you have any questions or comments or would like to find out where you could volunteer please don’t hesitate to contact me. Thank you very much for your help,
Louise Muir
