Balerno Community Council sought and was granted an extension of time for lodging comments in the Glenbrook planning application. Ordinarily where an extension has been sought and granted that has been taken to cover not only the Community Council but also the community at large. However on this occasion the City Council have clarified that the extension applies only to the Community Council. Accordingly members of the public can only lodge their own comments or objections up to 27 October.
The Community Council had sought an extension of time to ensure that the closing date would follow on after the publication date for the November C&B News which it was hoped might carry a piece responding to Clarendon’s article which appeared in the October issue. If any residents find they have missed the October deadline then they can still contact the Community Council which will be considering its own comments in response to the application at its monthly meeting meeting on 2 November.
The Community Council, having considered the matter through a sub-group on 12th October would at present propose to object strongly to the application on a number of grounds including non-compliance with the Local Development Plan, destruction of Green Belt, incompatibility with the Special Landscape Area and general issues of traffic overload and infrastructure inadequacy. The working group concluded the development if it were to proceed would add significantly to the already unacceptable level of traffic congestion along the Lanark Road West corridor. The Council’s objections are likely to follow the pattern in the draft letter on the Council’s website.
The Council urges all residents to consider carefully the desirability or othewise of allowing the proposed development to proceed, and to make their views known to the City Council before 27 October.
Comments can be lodged on the CEC website, full instruction can be found here.
