Christmas Lights Switch On cancelled.
The Community Council has with regret decided, in light of the weather forecast for high winds and rain, to cancel the switch on ceremony for the Balerno Christmas Lights scheduled for Thursday 5 December.
We realise that this will be a disappointment, particularly for the Dean Park Primary School Choir and the senior pupils who had kindly agreed to take part in the event, and we have not taken this decision lightly. However the Council feels that the safety of everyone who might attend should be the principal concern.
Despite cancellation of the event we will ensure that the lights are switched on on Thursday 5th. At this stage we can connect the lights in the Square, including the Christmas Tree, but we cannot yet connect the tree at the south end of Main Street where the power supply comes from a new much higher lamp standard on which the socket is set about 20’ up. We are in touch with Edinburgh Council about this but they have not yet been able to divert a lighting truck to assist.
We apologise for the cancellation of Thursday’s event but we hope that the Christmas Lights can nonetheless be enjoyed by everybody over the Christmas Season.
