City of Edinburgh Council
City of Edinburgh Council are continually reviewing the situation and their information, support and guidance is updating accordingly. Please use the links below or refer to the CEC website for up-to-date information about a specific line of enquiry.
Schools and early years:
Schools in Edinburgh are closed for all. CEC are providing prioritised learning and childcare for key workers, who remain crucial in supporting the city’s response to this crisis. They have opened 24 school buildings across the city to provide childcare for families where both parents and carers fall within the key worker category and who have no other possible childcare arrangements.
CEC has issued over 5,700 payments to families to meet the cost of free school meals due to school closures and you will get a letter from them to confirm this.
Emergency day care is also being put in place for specific learners in some schools which provide additional support needs. CEC will be communicating directly with the parents and carers of these young people.
Libraries, Public Buildings, and Green Spaces:
All libraries, and other public buildings and events spaces (including museums and venues), are closed with many associated events up to the end of April, cancelled. For library users, there will be no additional fines from Friday 20 March until further notice. Services including eBooks, audiobooks, magazines and newspapers will be available online.
The following outdoor spaces are all closed until further notice:
While parks are still open for local people to use for exercise, please make sure you follow national guidance on social distancing and only drive within five miles.
Waste and Recycling:
CEC are working to keep bin services running and have put plans in place to allow them to continue to run collections. This page will be regularly updated with advice and if any services change. If you see CEC crews in the street please keep a safe distance from them of at least two metres.
Blue and brown bin collections have recommenced.
Waste and recycling centres have reopened with measures in place to limit the number of people visiting. In order to visit a waste and recycling centre, you must book a time-slot here.
Parking and Roads:
Charges for all on-street pay and display parking bays have been reinstated. Yellow lines, loading bays, disabled parking places and car club places continue to be enforced.
Road defect repairs and capital resurfacing projects are proceeding as normal at present. The situation is being kept under review.
