Local Support
Balerno Cares
Balerno Cares is an open Facebook group to help the community of Balerno continue to be a community that cares throughout the disruption of COVID 19. Its key rule is to always #bekind.
Balerno Cares tries to connect people who want to help with those who need help. It's public and open to all but focusses on the community support in Balerno, connecting always with our neighbouring communities who also care.
There are over 1300 people in Balerno who contribute to the Facebook group. Those people have helped to set up over 40 WhatsApp groups across the community - there may already be one in your street.
The group also likes to share interesting and community spirited information regularly on its page to keep us connected, informed and even entertained during this time. All ages are encouraged to join in.
Balerno Cares isn't a centrally managed resource of volunteers; its there to facilitate help. You need to be on Facebook to see the group but it is easy to join and you don’t need to give any details to join the Balerno Cares group.

Balerno Parish Church
All worship services are currently being broadcasted through the Balerno Church’s website which is updated on a regular basis.
Balerno Parish Church is happy to support the community's more vulnerable residents. Each resident in Larchfield Neuk received an invitation to phone the minister if they need extra help and support. The minister is working in collaboration with the warden Janet. The same is true of the residents of Slaeside Housing complex.
The church are also making sure that they help the foodbank of Holy Trinity in Wester Hailes. They have set up a drop-off box in Scotmid on Balerno Main Street.
For any enquiries for Sheltered housing at Slaeside and Larchfield, please contact:

St Mungo's Church
There will be no traditional gatherings for services on Sundays until further notice, although St Mungo's be providing an online “service experience” via their website on Sunday mornings. Click here for information and access.
St Mungo's has been encouraging church members to participate in the Balerno Cares initiative and simply be a good/proactive neighbour, as opposed to forming anything more formal.
Whilst there will be no house group meetings in their traditional form until further notice, St Mungo's have now introduced technology solutions to enable “virtual” group meetings. Please also continue to prioritise simply keeping in touch with each other in your house groups.
There will be no prayer cell meetings in their traditional form until further notice, however everything that's been said about technology and virtual meetings is also true for prayer cells.
Please contact our pastoral care team if you need help.
