Estate agents would advertise Balerno as being a leafy suburb of Scotland's Capital city and you can see why in these pictures.

Woods surround the village and the rumble of water over stones is a constant reminder that we are on the edge of the city and near countryside.

The picture (left) is of historic Malleny House, owned by The National Trust for Scotland.

It is an extended 17th-century mansion of two storeys and an attic, and it includes earlier work from at least 1589.

The other pictures are of the Bavelaw Burn which runs from The Pentland Hills through the village and into the Water of Leith which trundles its way through the city and into the River Forth over seven miles away.

Another is of the picturesque cottages in the Lovedale area and also Balerno Church which sits in a prominent position as you enter the village.
