Process

A Working group from the Community Council has been tasked with producing a Local Place Plan.  This is made up of officers of the council and a member of the public.
Between September and December, the Working group and Community Council agreed the process and engagement questionnaire
From January to date, the Group has undertaken engagement through questionnaires, meetings, and feedback.
Every comment in the feedback has been analysed by the Working group under relevant topics.
From these comments the group has produced draft proposals.
The draft proposals, questionnaire responses, AI derived summaries will be uploaded and be available for review by the community.
The draft proposals are also available for viewing at the Gala and Farmers Market.
They will be presented to the Community Council.
Draft proposal details forwarded to members of the parent councils of BHS and DPPS and asked for their input.
A meeting with members from parents council of DPPS Parent council to hear directly from them, and hear their response to the draft proposals.
A public meeting on 9th July will allow the public to discuss and agree on the proposals to go forward in the Local Place Plan.
The Working Group will then work on writing the plan, including the proposals, maps and other details required throughout July.
The target is to have the plan written by mid/end July for review by the public for at least 28 days.
Subject to further revision, it will then be submitted to the City of Edinburgh Council for acceptance before their deadline of September.

Community Engagement

Community Consultation report: To use existing BVT community consultation exercise.  This was undertaken in 2022 by an independent organisation in relation to proposals for the Polic Station but contained useful information.
Farmers Market Engagement: We have engaged with the community in discussion at the Balerno Farmers Market.
  • Tell me about how you want to see Balerno improved?
  • Tell me what areas or aspects of Balerno you like and want to see kept?
Community Questionnaire: A questionnaire was published and received about 250 responses.  The questionnaire sought people’s thoughts on a range of topics.
Public & Group Meetings:  A public meeting was held in March where Planning Aid Scotland explained about Local Place Plans and we invited comments from attendees.  We also met with a number of local groups to explain the Local Place Plan and gather views and opinions.
